Photos JO1

Photos by Roger at Joshua Tree NP, CA, May 21, 2009

These photos were all taken and processed using HDR [high dynamic range]. The procedure uses 3 standard raw shots; one at -2 stops, one at +2 stops, and one at the correct exposure. The raw files are converted using Adobe camera Raw ACR in Photoshop to TIF files. The software package used, is called Phomatrix 3.1 which automatically aligns the 3 frames, stacks them , and then combines them into one file which is used to do the magical tone mapping . This produces a photo with much more dynamic range than normal processing. It works great on high contrast scenes. I hope you like them. This is my first serious attempt at using this procedure.

Rich Strobel and I drove about 10 miles into Joshua Tree NP just before sunset.
The flowers were mostly gone, but this park is so beautiful even with out flowers.
Here is Richards new SUV. It is a very roomy comfortable vehicle.
There were a few nice clouds out tonight.
These trees are so majestic.
The sun had a nice warm glow this evening.
The park was pretty much empty on this week day evening. Its getting pretty late in the year for tourist in this park as the summers are excruciatingly hot similar to Palm Springs.. Three weeks earlier would have been a better time to visit.
The Joshua Trees bloom with huge white flowers in the spring. You can see the dried blooms on this specimen.
We had to leave our dogs back at camp 30 miles back.
Old Joshua skeletons.

The sun just ready to go under.
This is my favorite HDR photo so far. The photos on this page were all taken handheld with my Canon 40d and Canon 24-105mm lens.
