The
4th day was really pleasant with no wind at all. We paddle only occasionally
on this day. |
 |
Mollie
was by far the strongest paddler, so she inherited the biggest
boat. |
 |
The
river flow varied between 2 - 4.5 mph according to my GPS.
Moderate paddling would produce 4.5 to 5 mph speed. In the strong
head winds which we encountered we were lucky to maintain 2.5 mph. |

The
Tamarisk brush and trees made most shores inaccessible. Wish the
scientists could find a way to eradicate this invasive weed. |

This
is Mineral Bottom the destination of our trip, where we camped the 4th
night. The long canyon was explored for Uranium in the late
60's. |
 |
This
is the boat ramp at Mineral Bottom. The silt and mud is a
challenge. When stepping into it you could sink up to your crotch
and it will pull your shoes off if they are not firmly attached. |

This
is Ember a Blue Healer puppy owned by Allen the resident BLM volunteer
at Mineral Bottom. |
 |
Meghan
loved meeting all the boaters at Mineral Bottom and had a great
time playing with Ember. |

Allen
has been working summers at Mineral Bottom over 10 years and is a real
character, who has some interesting theories about magnetism related to
health and well being. Last year he even presented me with a CD
summary of his theories. |
